George Gay

Can anyone help!

We recently had a gentleman call on us who was researching Church music. He was specifically interested in a Mr George Gay who lived at No.3 Monks Lane.

Years ago George was the organist at Monks Chapel and he authored over 50 Psalm’s and Hymn’s.

Samples of these Hymn’s and Psalm’s can be found in Churches and Chapels around the surrounding area, for example at Chapelnap and Monks Chapel.

The originals were handwritten into a Hymnbook, which was originally kept in Monks Chapel but has since disappeared.

If any one could shed any light on this local composer and his family, we would grateful if you could contact us by email or through the comments box below.

And finally, we are also looking for a local amateur or professional Archaeologist, to help us date some interesting items found in the Grounds of Monks Chapel.

If you are an archaeologist or know one please get in touch.

Thank you for your help.
